Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) centers on the theory that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system and that this disruption causes the symptoms that bring people to therapy.
EFT involves tapping on acupressure points on the energy pathways of the body called meridians while focusing on a negative emotion, physical sensation or event. We tap as we focus to release negative emotion resulting from this events in our past. The vibration of the tapping sends pulses through the meridian system and fixes the energy disruption and energy flows freely again.
As we go through live we assign meaning to events and form associations in our mind between the event and the negative impact. Your emotional reaction is tied to the event. It is your thought about the event that is negative not the event itself. EFT is a technique for behavioral desensitization and essentially we are looking for a cognitive shift so that we are able to look at memories without being triggered.
EFT works well for:
- stress reduction
- food cravings
- fears & phobias
- physical conditions and pain
- insomnia and other sleeping issues
Clinical EFT is an exciting technique that is becoming widely used to help overcome a wide range of psychological and physical problems. EFT has been explored and demonstrated to be an effective energy psychology technique in many studies and writings.
